Ham and Cheese Toasted Sandwiches
Ingredients (for 4 sandwiches):
4 large slices of country bread or whole wheat bread
2 tablespoons of crème fraîche or béchamel sauce
4 slices of cooked ham (or turkey ham)
150 g of grated cheese (Emmental, Gruyère, or mozzarella)
1 teaspoon of mustard (optional)
Freshly ground black pepper
Herbs (oregano, thyme, or parsley, to taste)
Preparation:
Preheat your oven to 200°C (fan-assisted).
Lightly toast the bread slices if you want extra crispy sandwiches.
Spread each slice of bread with a thin layer of crème fraîche or béchamel sauce.
Add a little mustard if desired, to enhance the flavor.
Place a slice of ham on each sandwich (you can fold it if it's too big).
Generously cover with grated cheese.
Season with pepper to taste and add the herbs.
Arrange the sandwiches on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
Bake for 10 to 12 minutes, until the cheese is melted and golden brown.
Gourmet tip:
Add a slice of tomato or sautéed mushrooms under the cheese for a more flavorful version. Or replace the ham with smoked salmon or pastrami.
