Crispy Mashed Potato, Ham, and Cheese Cigars
Ingredients (for about 12 cigars):
12 sheets of brick pastry
3 large potatoes (about 500 g)
100 g diced ham (or ham cut into small pieces)
100 g grated cheese (Emmental, mozzarella, cheddar, etc.)
1 tablespoon butter
2 tablespoons crème fraîche or milk (for the mashed potatoes)
Salt, pepper, and a pinch of nutmeg (optional)
Melt butter or oil for brushing
Preparation:
1. Prepare the mashed potatoes:
Peel and cut the potatoes into chunks.
Cook them in a large pot of salted water until tender (15-20 minutes).
Drain them, then mash them.
Add butter, crème fraîche, or a little milk to obtain a smooth but firm purée.
Add salt, pepper, and a pinch of nutmeg if desired.
2. Prepare the stuffing:
Mix the purée with the diced ham and grated cheese.
Let cool so the stuffing is easy to handle.
3. Shape the cigars:
Take a sheet of brick pastry.
Place a small sausage of stuffing on the edge.
Fold in the sides and roll to form a tight cigar.
Seal the ends with a little water or melted butter.
4. Bake:
Brush the cigars with melted butter or oil.
Oven: Bake at 200°C for 12-15 minutes until golden brown and crispy.
Or deep-fry: Fry them in hot oil until golden brown.
Delicious tips:
You can slip a small cube of cheese inside for a runny surprise.
Perfect with a green salad or barbecue sauce for dipping!
